The Bayonne Fire Department extinguished a kitchen fire on Oct. 28.

At 5:22 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of fire at 13 Colonial Drive in the Country Village section of Bayonne.

Arriving units found smoke and fire coming from the first floor kitchen area of the two-family home. Firefighters used two hand lines to extinguish a gas-fed fire near the stove.

The fire was declared under control at 5:45 p.m. No injuries were reported, and fire officials are conducting an investigation into the cause. However, they said it does not seem suspicious.

The Building Department, OEM, and PSE&G also responded to the incident. One displaced occupant is staying with a relative.

“The quick response and actions of our firefighters led to the quick extinguishment and containment of this fire to the kitchen area of the first floor apartment,” Fire Chief Keith Weaver said.
