Jersey City Ward D councilman secures seat

Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh will continue to represent the Heights on the nine-member Jersey City Council, according to unofficial ballot tallies from the Hudson County Clerk’s Office.

Saleh, who was originally appointed to the position in May after the passing of Councilman Michael Yun, received 58.5 percent of votes for a total of 4,854 votes.

He bested challengers Patrick Ambrossi, Cynthia Hydjiyannis, Rafael Torres, and Lenny Lambert for the position.

According to the unofficial results as of Nov. 3, a total of 8,304 ballots were cast in the Ward D race. Ambrossi received 16 percent of the vote with 1,325 votes followed by Hadjiyannis with 12.1 percent of the vote with 1,003 votes, followed by Torres with 10.5 percent of the votes with 872 votes, and Lambert with 2.9 percent of the vote with 238 votes.
