A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 14, at Saint Aedan’s, The Saint Peter’s University Church, for Cecilia Margaret Adkins, a lifelong resident of Jersey City until five years ago. She passed away Oct. 26 in Edgewater. She attended the local schools, graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1937, at the age of 15. Several years later in 1962, she earned a degree in Business Management from Rutgers University. In the same year, she married Carter Adkins II, who predeceased her on May 15, 2000. She was employed as a legal secretary in the office of Louis E. Saunders, Esq. for several years. She also worked at Western Electric, reaching the position of Secretary to Department Chief. She resigned from that position to accept employment in the U.S. Navy Department, retiring after 28 ½ years of service at the Military Ocean Terminal as a Country Program Manager GS-11. She was a Life Member of Cancer Care, Inc. and a member of the Rutgers University Alumni Association. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s and St. Aedan’s churches in Jersey City. Ceile, as she was commonly known, loved to dance, to travel and to communicate with all those individuals who had touched her life. She leaves to cherish her memory her stepsons, Carter Adkins III (Deborah) and Stewart W. Adkins; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Carter; two stepgranddaughters, Jasmine Adkins Moore (Andre) and Jennifer Carter; two stepgrandsons, Carter Adkins IV (Dasha) and James B. Tinsley (Charnel); Dona and Samuel C. Scott III; Sharen Mays; Jose Tenorio, and a host of other relatives and very special friends. May she remain in God’s care for all eternity.
