The culprit behind an alleged robbery, during which an elderly woman was dragged down the stairs and sidewalk, has been arrested, according to the Bayonne Police Department.
Rodney M. Neal,, 49, of Jersey City was taken into custody on Dec. 1 at 9:46 a.m. from the area of 48th Street and Kennedy Boulevard. The arrest came after Neal was identified as the suspect in the alleged robbery reported on Oct 15.

On that date at 10:18 p.m., officers responded to the area of 54th Street and Avenue B after hearing a female crying for help.
There, they met with the victim, 73, who stated that she had just been robbed of her purse by an unknown male who had fled the scene.
According to the victim, as she arrived home, she checked her mailbox on the porch of her residence when an unknown male walked up the steps and approached her from behind. She refused to comply when the man demanded her purse.
The man allegedly grabbed the shoulder strap of her purse as he attempted to forcibly remove the purse from the victim’s grasp. Still refusing to surrender the purse, the victim was dragged down the steps by the man to the sidewalk where he continued his attempts to gain possession of the purse.
After being dragged several more feet across the sidewalk as she held onto the purse, the strap broke, allowing the man to flee with the purse.
The victim suffered cuts to her knee and wrist along with bruising to her arm and was treated at an area hospital. She provided a description of the man to officers, which was broadcast to all available units, but the man could not be located.
An investigation was immediately initiated by the Bayonne Police Detective Bureau, which revealed that the man was in possession of a bicycle on the night of the robbery.
On Dec. 1 at 9:46 a.m., a Bayonne Police Detectives driving in the area of 41st Street and Kennedy Boulevard observed a male matching the victim’s description of the robber riding a bicycle, that matched the bicycle he was allegedly in possession of on the night of the robbery.
The detectives stopped the male, later identified as Rodney M. Neal, and conducted an investigation which led to Neal being positively identified as the actor of the robbery.
Neal was placed under arrest and a search incident to his arrest led to the recovery of narcotic paraphernalia.
He was charged with robbery and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
