Pascrell mocks Republican calls to investigate him after disbarment letter

Five Republican representatives allege he violated Rudy Giuliani's civil rights

Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. has mocked a letter targeting him sent by five Republican members of the House of Representatives who support the flood of unsuccessful lawsuits filed by President Trump’s lawyers.

The lawmakers’ letter urges U.S. Attorney General William Barr to investigate Pascrell Jr. for “possible civil rights violations” against Rudolph Giuliani, citing Pascrell Jr.’s efforts to disbar Trump’s attorneys.

President Trump continues to insist the election he lost was stolen from him by massive voter fraud. Last week Barr said a Justice Department review of the election found no evidence of fraud significant enough to affect the outcome of the election.

Pascrell Jr. represents the 9th Congressional District of New Jersey, including Secaucus.

Trump’s attempt to “steal” the election

In November, Pascrell Jr. wrote to the bar disciplinary authorities of Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania seeking the disbarment of 23 Trump attorneys, including Giuliani. He said these attorneys are aiding Trump’s attempt to “steal” the election.

Democrat Joe Biden has won both the popular and electoral college votes needed to secure the 2020 presidential election. However, Trump has refused to concede, citing unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud and conspiracy theories about voting machines. Trump has unsuccessfully taken his claims of fraud to court in multiple states.

In Pascrell’s letter he said that Trump’s attorneys have violated rules of professional conduct in multiple states because the lawsuits filed are “frivolous” and because their conduct involves “dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.”

In violating rules of professional conduct in various states, Pascell Jr. said the attorneys should face the revocation of their law licenses.

Republicans defend Trump attorneys

The five Republicans representatives asking Barr for an investigation of Pascrell Jr. include Andy Biggs who represents the 5th Congressional District of Arizona; Warren Davidson who represents the 8th Congressional District of Ohio; Andy Harris who represents the 1st Congressional District of Maryland; Debbie Lesko who represents the 8th Congressional District of Arizona; and Randy Weber who represents the 14th Congressional District of Texas.

The Republicans challenged Pascrell Jr.’s assertion that the lawsuits filed by Trump attorneys were “frivolous” and said Trump “has the right to retain counsel to represent him.”

The Republicans claim Pascrell Jr. is “attempting to bar the President from legal counsel and take away the livelihood of attorneys who have represented the President.”

“The efforts to disbar the President’s lawyers simply for representing the President is designed to impede the rights of the President and his counsel,” they wrote.

Last laugh?

“On the same day we learned that Rudy Giuliani asked Donald Trump for a preemptive pardon, five Republican House members are alleging I violated Giuliani’s civil rights by demanding his disbarment for trying to steal the election,” Pascrell Jr. said.

He continued: “You can’t make it up. I’d say they should be ashamed and embarrassed if they were capable of shame. House Republicans are running interference to help make Trump a dictator. But wannabe fascist sycophants don’t scare me. I won’t shut up about the crimes of Trump and his lawyers.”
