NICHOLAS ANTHONY PICCA

Funeral services were held Dec. 12 for Nicholas Anthony Picca, 95, of North Bergen. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Dec. 1. Nicholas was born in Molfetta, Italy. His family immigrated to America when he was eight years old. He resided in Hoboken, with his parents, Joseph and Rosa Picca along with his sister, Mary Materek. During his senior year of high school, he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he became the Pharmacist Mate 1st Class on the LST 372 stationed overseas in the English Channel. After the war, he secured a job at Seifert’s Pharmacy in Guttenberg, in 1946 while attending Rutgers College of Pharmacy. An excellent student, he received the highest math award, the Rho Chi and was a member of the pharmacy fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta. He graduated Rutgers in 1950. On September 24, 1950, he married his love, Genevieve M. Musto, also a pharmacist and alumnus of Rutgers College. They were blessed to have celebrated 70 years of marriage upon his passing. The couple bought their home in North Bergen where they raised their four children, William, Robert, Jean and Renee, and enjoyed summers at their beach home at the Jersey Shore. When he wasn’t working, Nick loved to fish. Because Nicholas had such a strong work ethic and dedication to the business, he was entrusted to take over the pharmacy after the owner/his partner, Eric Seifert, passed. He purchased the pharmacy in 1969. The pharmacy continues to operate to this day by his sons, William and Robert Picca. Nicholas devoted his entire life to his family and the pharmacy. He will be greatly missed, but always remembered in our hearts. Nicholas is survived by his  wife, Genevieve; their four  children, William Picca and his wife, Mary Anne; Robert Picca; Jean and her husband, Walt Rant; Renee and her husband, Richard Mitchell; their 10 grandchildren, Monica Picca, Thomas Rant, Brian Rant, Rebecca and her husband, Rick Rean, Craig Rant, Jessica Rant, Erik Rant, Christine Mitchell, Amanda and her husband, Michael Domingues-Oriundo, Victoria Mitchell; and their two great-grandchildren, Luna Rant and Anastasia Rose Domingues-Oriundo. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
