The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 24 at Saint Anne R.C. Church, Jersey City, for Honora (“Nora”) Browne. She is survived by three sons (Michael, Vincent, Kevin), three daughters-in-law (Amy, Frances, Barbara) and seven grandchildren (Kelly, Ryan, Stephen, Sean, Anna, Connor, Thomas). Nora was predeceased by her husband, Tom, and precious grandson, Patrick. Nora was raised in Ireland. She was fearless and a force of nature. Following high school, she left her Ireland for nursing school in England. After nursing school, she volunteered to provide free nursing services in Ghana, Africa to its most vulnerable citizens. Nora then emigrated to the U.S. where she met Tom at an Irish dance in NYC. The two married and happily lived their lives in Jersey City. Nora was Director of Nursing at The Lutheran Home, President of the Rosary Altar Society and the Legion of Mary at St. Anne’s Church and President of the Nelson Avenue Block Association. She accomplished this while raising a family, taking college courses, learning how to drive and play the accordion, selling Avon and Tupperware and welcoming her children’s friends into her home. She was a Jersey City Woman of the Year recipient and will be missed. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements by McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
