A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 22 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Jersey City, for Helen Rogers (nee Ostaszewska). She was a lifelong resident of Downtown Jersey City. She was born, raised, and lived her entire life in the same house on Seventh Street. Her husband Peter Rogers preceded her in death in 2008. Helen was an active member of Saint Anthony’s Church, and supportive of its grammar school programs while her children were in attendance. She was an active member of Saint Anthony’s Rosarian Society and Senior Club. Helen was also an active participant at St. Ann’s, O.L.C.’s and Grace Van Vorst’s Senior Clubs. For 25 years she worked as a School Crossing Guard for many of the neighborhood downtown schools. She enjoyed many summers at the family home in Seaside Park. Her family and many friends will remember Helen as a generous, patient and understanding woman who loved to laugh. She will be missed! Helen is survived by her three children, Beverly Rogers, Bruce Rogers, and Charlotte Gentile; Charlotte’s husband, Benjamin Gentile; three grandsons, Nicholas, Benjamin and Julian Gentile; one great-grandchild, Violet Gentile and many nieces and nephews.
