The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested Jersey City resident Darius Evans, 45, in connection with the stabbing death of 39-year-old Tyrone Haskins on Jan. 1.
He turned himself in with his attorney on Monday, Jan. 11, just after 12 p.m., at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.
He previously had been charged in connection with the murder, and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
He is charged with Murder, a crime of the first degree; Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, a crime of the third degree; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, a crime of the fourth degree.
On Friday, Jan. 1, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a possible stabbing victim found in the area of 333 Ocean Avenue in Jersey City.
Officers found a man with an apparent stab wound to his torso.
The victim, later identified as Jersey City resident Tyrone Haskins, 39, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:20 a.m.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.
The above charges are merely accusations. Evans is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
