A Celebration of Life Service took place Jan. 6 at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, Jersey City, for Darold Waddell, known as “Blinky or Blink.” He passed away Dec. 24. He was born on August 16, 1953, to James and Rose Waddell in Jersey City. God called him home on Thursday, Christmas Eve Dec. 24, 2020. He received his education in the Jersey City Public Schools. Darold attended Manhattan School of Business Academy, which led him to become an entrepreneur. He opened his own grocery store in Jersey City on Jackson Avenue and named it Amiyrah’s Grocery after his first-born child. Darold was preceded in death by his father James Waddell and brother Brevard Waddell. Darold is survived by his daughter Amiyrah LaMekan Waddell and son Jauron Brevard Waddell and their mother Sylvia Smith of Jersey City; son Darell Dickerson of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; grandchildren: Jamel Corkins, Kaylise Dickerson, and Kamaya Dickerson; special grandfather to Tahnerra Dickerson, Kevin Dickerson and Lexis Nichols. His devoted mother Rose Waddell, sister Barbara Ann Waddell; aunt Dorothy Kendall, nephew and niece Gerald Sharif Scrutchins & Tyhesha Jackson; great nephew and niece Nasir Sharif Scrutchins and Skylar Ann Scrutchins; longtime friends Warren AppleJack Robertson and Eric Wigfall and a host of cherished cousins and friends.
