Plans are in motion for North Bergen public schools to make their way back into classrooms, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Solter in a video update on Jan. 15.
Solter announced the district is currently working on a schedule for in-person instruction. It has been operating under virtual instruction since the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
Factors affecting Phase 2 include COVID-19 positivity rates, vaccine availability, staffing, and students choosing to remain under virtual instruction.
The third marking periodÂ
Solter said the district is eyeing a move to hybrid instruction sometime in the third marking period, which begins on Feb. 8. Further information will be published at the end of the month.
The district is conducting benchmark assessments in Math and English Language Arts to discover where students are and how the district can improve student understanding after almost a year of virtual instruction.
According to Solter, the benchmark does not count toward the marking period grade, nor is it used against a student. He encouraged parents to log into the Realtime Parent Portal to get the latest information on their children.
Solter reiterated the district’s policy of prohibiting students from recording video or audio of teachers during lessons. He said that the rule applies even under virtual instruction.
“Please stay healthy and follow all CDC guidelines as we move toward the rollout of the vaccine,” he said.
