Correctional center death

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating an inmate death at the Hudson County Correctional Center that occurred on Jan.25.

The cellmate of Jason Sworn, 50, notified corrections officers that Sworn had fallen out of bed and was complaining of chest pains.

He was later pronounced dead.

The HCPO and the Attorney General investigating the death.

Pastor sentenced 

On Jan. 21, Jersey City Pastor Josue Rodriguez, 62, was sentenced to 15 years in New Jersey state prison for sexually assaulting two children.

Rodriguez was a pastor and taught religion to children at Temple Refugio; he taught both victims.

Lockbox for North Bergen tax payments

Due to the COVID pandemic, Town Hall is closed to the public, and the Tax Collector’s Office is not accepting in-person payments at this time. There is a silver-colored lockbox on the north side of Town Hall for non-cash payments only.

Endorsement for Team Fulop

The Hudson County Democratic Black Caucus endorsed Mayor Steven Fulop and his council team in the November election, citing a number of achievements, including reducing crime while diversifying the JCPD and making it more responsive to the community.

Man sought in Jersey City hit and run 

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office seeks the public’s help in locating a Jersey City man charged in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a woman, 26, on Jan. 1 near Ocean and Warner avenues.

Asim Murrell, 42,  has been charged with a number of offenses related to leaving the scene of an accident.

Fatal Jersey City car fire investigated

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a “minor” vehicle accident and car fire at Hutton St. and New York Ave. on Jan. 27 that claimed the life of the unidentified driver.

Hoboken police nab meth man 

Hoboken police charged Mathew Laneve, 31, from New York City with a number of drugs offenses after they found approximately $10,000 worth of Methamphetamine in a rental car on Jan. 20.

Laneve is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
