Bayonne launches COVID-19 vaccine PSA

Distribution was not hampered by snow or holidays

COVID-19 vaccinations are proceeding in the city despite inclement weather and holidays.

Bayonne Mayor James Davis said on Feb. 16, “Bayonne has some great people! Even though yesterday was Presidents Day, we had volunteers who came into Bayonne Medical Center to help vaccinate our residents. Thank you to all of these great healthcare workers!”

The first doses of the Moderna vaccine were distributed to hospital personnel at BMC on Dec. 22. Since then, more than 5,000 residents have received their first doses.

The city has been encouraging residents to get vaccinated through a Public Service Announcement (PSA) launched at the beginning of February online, on social media, and on TV.

Get vaccinated!

In the PSA, Davis said, “Now is the time to turn the tide. … Our goal is to vaccinate everyone, so please register when you become eligible. We’ve come this far. Now I’m asking you for your continued patience and cooperation. Together, we will get the job done.”

Currently, those eligible include healthcare personnel, first responders, and those at high risk, which includes those 65 and older and those between ages 16 to 64 with medical conditions.

To register for a vaccination in the city, call 201-858-6088 or email Leave a message with a name, date of birth, and contact. The vaccine hotline is available weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The city will reach out to those who have called or e-mailed to confirm they are registered. When vaccines are available, the city will reach out to registered residents to schedule an appointment.

Do not call or e-mail the city multiple times about registering because it hampers vaccination efforts. The city is experiencing delays due to people calling and leaving voicemails more than once.

The uptown Rite Aid at the corner of Broadway and West 54th Street is administering vaccines. To register, go to
