Firefighters rescued a man in an accident involving a shipping container lift, according to Bayonne Deputy Fire Chief Bill Bartos.

At 10:44 a.m. on Feb. 14, the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to Global Terminals on Port Jersey Blvd.

Units found a heavy-duty container lift, used to move shipping containers, tipped over onto a stack of containers. The equipment operator was trapped inside the lift.

Firefighters used an aerial bucket to remove the operator. The man was transported to Bayonne Medical Center by McCabe Ambulance with apparently minor injuries.

“The quick and professional response by our firefighters led to the safe removal of this equipment operator without further injury or property damage,” Bartos said.

The Port Authority Police Department, Bayonne Police Department, Bayonne Office of Emergency Management, and Jersey City Fire Department also responded.
