North Bergen hires four part-time police officers
Four new, bilingual, Special Law Enforcement Class II Officers were sworn in on Feb. 16.
All are township residents. Two are Hispanic-American; the others are Arabic-American.
Hoboken man is at it again
Qiuwen Zheng was arrested on Feb. 21 at The Rock Pub & Grill at 206 Broadway in Bayonne. He allegedly entered the tavern, violating a no-contact order for past harassment.
On Jan. 4, he was arrested for the same actions at The Rock. Earlier he’d been arrested for threatening Sandra Dear, owner of Bayonne’s Black-owned Little Boho Bookshop.
County housing authorities to get federal funds
Public housing agencies will get millions in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Jersey City Housing Authority will receive $6,578,836; Hoboken’s $4,072,314; Bayonne’s $3,524,579; North Bergen’s $2,344,389.00; Union City’s $1,216,918; Harrison’s $875,950; and Guttenberg’s $617,443.
Hoboken’s Mile Square Theatre presents mentalist

Man pleads guilty in Newport Centre Mall shooting
Jersey City resident Ahmad Broadway, 26, has pleaded guilty to charges related to the Jan. 11, 2019 Newport Centre Mall shooting that injured two people.
Victims were inside the food court on the third floor of the Newport Centre Mall.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 29, 2021.
Hoboken mayor warns against travel
Mayor Ravi Bhalla reported that recent contact tracing indicates that travel to Florida, Mexico, and out-of-state ski resorts have contributed to infections.
Indoor gatherings should also be avoided.
There have been two deaths in the past week.
From 1 to 7 p.m. the New Jersey Department of Health will offer testing on March 5 and 19 at the Hoboken Housing Authority, 221 Jackson St., no appointments required.

Executive Director of the Jersey City Free Public Library Jeffrey Trzeciak will leave after 15 months for a similar post in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, beginning in early April.

The JCFPL will remove pending overdue fines for books and other materials.
Patrons must return overdue materials in order to check out additional ones and must pay coasts if an item is lost, damaged, or not returned within 30 days after the due date.
Hoboken man charged with distributing heroin
On Feb. 21, HPD detectives arrested Hoboken resident Stephen White, 52, on narcotics and weapons charges, near 310 Jackson St., allegedly in possession of about six grams of Heroin, about $2,000, an unauthorized Hoboken Housing Authority access card, and a folding knife.
He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Journal Square Community Association taps new president
The JSCA elected human resources professional Jovina Johnson as its new president.

Alleged Union City narcotics operation busted
Yonathan Seligman, 29, of Union City was arrested on drug charges, related to an alleged narcotics operation at 809 22nd St.
Recovered from the site were more than 1,200 pills suspected to be ecstasy, marijuana, “mushrooms,” “acid,” prescription drugs, distribution paraphernalia, and more than $51,000 in cash.
