North Bergen launches snow cleanup effort

Snow, salt and debris have littered roadways and sidewalks after a harsh winter

Snow piled up on streets and sidewalks after Winter Storms Gail, Orlena, and Viola dumped about two feet of it on county municipalities.

North Bergen’s Department of Public Works crews began a major cleanup operation March 2.

“As the weather begins to warm up we are doing a full mobilization of our DPW to clean up our roads,” said Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “This winter was pretty harsh and the accumulation of snow, salt and debris certainly took its toll on our roads. This massive cleanup effort will leave North Bergen roads pristine, as we’ve grown accustomed to seeing them.”

The DPW has four sweeper crews equipped with blowers, and four broom and bucket crews.

Street sweeping resumed March 2 after being suspended since mid February. Residents are asked to follow parking regulations.
