On March 2, police officers interacted with about 200 district kindergarten students.

“I am excited to expand the Bayonne Police Department’s partnership with the Bayonne Board of Education, this City’s private educational institutions, and our business community with the launch of our Virtual Read with a Cop Program,” Police Chief Robert Geisler said. “I would like to thank the leaders of the partnering public and private schools as well as the The Little BOHO Bookshop for their participation.”

While the BPD has been working to build rapport with the community, some events, such as “Coffee with a Cop” had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. The virtual reading sessions solve the problem.

“These virtual reading events will allow officers to form new relationships as well as strengthen existing relationships with our community’s youth,” Geisler said. “I commend all the officers who have volunteered to take part in the virtual reading sessions in order to promote reading and education in our community.”

Said Superintendent of Schools John Niesz: “It’s always great to have our police officers helping our students. Our community in Bayonne continues to benefit from our strong relationships with our police officers and first responders.”
