DAVID L. JONES

A memorial service will be held at a later date for David L. Jones, Jr., 72. He died peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, Feb. 11 after a battle with cancer. David was a Jersey City native, attended Snyder High School and was a lover of politics, African culture, jazz, singing, art, and drumming. His favorite artists were Al Jarreau, Coltrane, Miles and Little Anthony and the Imperials. In his earlier days, he was part of a quartet called The Superlatives. He spent time in Mount Vernon, NY and later in Ocala, Florida. Father of six children: Stacey Jones, Nigeria James (Zeke), David Jones (Keri), Monifa Jackson (Marcellus), Omar Jones, and Brionna Jones. Grandfather to seven granddaughters: Niani, Laila, Alana, Zaria, Reina, Che’la and Nya. He is preceded in death by his late mother, Mary Ruth Jones, and sister, Sakinah Bell (“Kool”). He is survived by Ruby Jones, the mother of his five children, six sisters Sandra McDuffie, Lou Sapp, Elsie Jones, Diane Graves, Sheila Johnson (Ronald), Brenda Murray (Charles), one brother, Dwight Jones, uncle Roland “Tater” White (Claudette), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
