MARGARET MARY CURRAN

Funeral services were held Feb. 24 for Margaret Mary Curran, 81, of Cranford, previously a longtime resident of Jersey City. She passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center. Marge, also known as Margaretta, was born June 25, 1939 in Jersey City, to Joseph and Margaret O’Grady. She was raised in the Bronx, NY, and graduated from St. Jean Baptiste High School in Manhattan. Early in her career, Marge worked for Restaurant Associates, which afforded her the opportunity to dine at some of New York City’s finest restaurants, including The Four Seasons and The Forum, as well as frequent chances to speak with famous chef James Beard. Marge went on to work as a property manager for the City of Jersey City, the post from which she retired. Marge was married for 58 years to her loving husband, John Curran, who survives her. She is also survived by their children, Dr. Colin Curran and his wife, Dr. Margaret Curran, of Greer, SC; Maureen and her husband, Rod Honecker, of Brielle; Sean Curran and his wife, Robin, of Melrose, MA; and Dr. Terrence Curran and his wife, Kathy, of Cranford; as well as six cherished grandchildren, John, Caroline, Molly, Emma, Jessica and Nolan. Marge is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John Yandrasits, and her dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother John. Known for her quick wit and caring spirit, Marge enjoyed attending family celebrations, crocheting, reading Donna Leon novels, bowling with her good friend Tina, shopping at the Secaucus outlets, and cheering on the New York Mets. While living in Jersey City, she was a member of St. Anne Roman Catholic Church. Her family enjoyed her famous butter cookies at Christmas, and the apple pies she baked for Thanksgiving. She took great pleasure in watching her grandchildren Irish step dancing, playing their musical instruments, playing baseball and softball and competing in ice skating shows. Marge and her husband enjoyed dining out, spending time by the pool at Doolan’s Shore Club in Spring Lake; visiting the Yankee Clipper in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and visiting South Carolina and Boston. The family wishes to thank the staff of Homewell Care Services, especially Marge’s caregiver, Shamane, for their excellent care since 2017. Services arranged by the Dooley Funeral Home, Cranford.
