Jersey City teacher charged with sexual assault of student

A Long Island man, 67, and teacher at the Infinity Institute in Jersey City has been charged and arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl, 11, who was his student. The victim, who is now 12, reported that the sexual assaults occurred at the public school in 2019.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Apparao Sunkara, of Hicksville, New York, was arrested at his home on March 16, at approximately 4 p.m.

Sunkara was charged with Sexual Assault, a crime of the second degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a crime of the second degree.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Nassau County Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

Sunkara is currently being held on the charges in Nassau County.
