Fire extinguished at Magic Fountain

The BFD made quick work of a one-alarm fire at Magic Fountain Ice Cream on March 30, according to Fire Chief Keith Weaver. There were no injuries; the fire is not considered suspicious.

DrumFIT Cardio Drumming classes announced

A DrumFIT Cardio Drumming Class will be held May 2nd at the BHS Ice Rink Basketball Gym, ages 7 to 13, Bayonne residents only, $10.

Three classes: 10 to 10:30 a.m., 10:45 to 11:15 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Register at City Hall, Monday through Friday, f9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bridge jumper dies

An unidentified man who jumped off the Bayonne Bridge on March 27 has died. He was pulled out of the Kill van Kull beneath the bridge after what appears to be a suicide, authorities said.

The Port Authority Police Department is conducting an investigation.

Register for Robotic Battles

Minds in Motion: Robotic Battles is open to children ages 7 to 13.

Two sessions: May 1 and May 8, 10 to 11 a.m., $25 per person, outdoors at the 56th Street Senior Center, Bayonne residents only.

Two fires snuffed in one day

The BFD responded to two fires on March 30, according to Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

Firefighters were dispatched to 170 West 25th Street at 2:10 p.m.; the fire was placed under control at 2:25 p.m. Though an investigation is underway, the fire is not considered suspicious. No injuries were reported.

At 4:03 p.m., the BFD was dispatched to 108 West 3rd Street. The fire was placed under control at 4:49 p.m.

Firefighters rescued one dog and recovered one dead dog. Three people were displaced. There were no injuries.

‘HER TIME TO PLAY’

The “HER TIME TO PLAY” Basketball Program sponsored by the WNBA will take place in July. Details to be announced.

Wrap mattresses for curbside pickup

Residents must wrap mattresses in plastic or mattress covers to be picked up by sanitation workers. DPW estimates that residents dispose of five to 12 mattresses per week.
