Seven people, including four family members, were arrested at 12:47 a.m. on Easter Sunday after a brawl at The Refinery Tavern, at 812 Broadway, according to the Bayonne Police Department.

‘Tumultuous behavior’

Officers patrolling the area observed a large unruly group in the area of 37th Street and Broadway. As they attempted to disperse the crowd, it walked south on Broadway while continuing its “aggressive, loud, and tumultuous behavior,” police said.

As officers ordered them to cease their behavior and clear the area, the
group allegedly disregarded the commands and began fighting with each other. Officers intervened and took Victor Torres Jr. and Demetri Hill into custody.

During the arrest, authorities said Demetri allegedly resisted by tensing up and refusing to be handcuffed. After a brief struggle, Demetri was secured in handcuffs, and the officers began removing Torres and Demetri from the area, according to police.

As officers removed the two, the remaining crowd continued to fight and push through the officers in an attempt to interfere with the arrest that had just taken place, police said. Once the two were safely secured in marked patrol vehicles, the officers continued to disperse the crowd and stop the fight.

While doing so, their commands were allegedly ignored, and a female, later identified as Sheila Hill, allegedly continued her “tumultuous behavior” by pushing through several females before Sean Hill, Sr. grabbed her.

An Easter brawl

Sheila and Sean Hill allegedly continued to scream at the officers and ignored commands to cease their disorderly behavior. Officers attempted to place Sean under arrest but were allegedly interrupted by Sean Hill Jr., who had pushed through the crowd.

Officers placed Sean Hill in handcuffs after he allegedly resisted. As officers attempted to take Sheila into custody, she allegedly fought the officers while refusing to be handcuffed.

Once she was in handcuffs, she allegedly kicked an officer in the thigh. During this time, Sean Hill Jr. allegedly continued fighting with officers while attempting to get to his father, Sean, Sr.

While officers attempted to place Sean Hill Jr. under arrest, a large crowd formed around the officers as Sean Hill Jr. continued fighting with the officers. As officers grabbed Hill Jr., Jashawn Baker allegedly intervened and pushed the arresting officers from behind, causing them to fall to the ground with Hill Jr.

While on the ground, officers placed Hill Jr. in handcuffs after he allegedly resisted arrest by tensing up. Officers turned their attention to Baker, taking him into custody after he allegedly resisted arrest by tensing up his arms and refusing to be handcuffed.

Rowdy crowd

Once the arrestees were removed from the area, officers ordered the remaining individuals to disperse. Allegedly refusing to comply was a male, later identified as Danil Sautkin, who was taken into custody.

A search led to the recovery of cocaine from Sautkin’s person. One officer reported a minor injury to his leg sustained during the melee.
