The Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center in Kearny will be open for an additional day this week due to the increased supply of vaccines.

More than 4,000 vaccines will be administered at the county-run site through the end of this week which will also vaccinate residents on Thursday, April 8.

All eligible residents are encouraged to visit hudsoncovidvax.org to begin the registration process to get a vaccine appointment at the drive-through facility at 110 Hackensack avenue.

This week, Hudson County received its largest allocations of vaccines to date with more than 20,000 doses being directed to the county and its municipal partners by state and federal officials.

β€œHudson County has worked tirelessly to keep our residents safe and healthy since day one of this pandemic,” said Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. β€œThe past year has been difficult for each of us, but the COVID-19 vaccine roll out and a steady increase of availability is finally helping us turn a corner. My message to residents is simple: trust the science and do your part to help us put an end to this pandemic. The best vaccine out there is the one available to you and I and encourage everyone to get vaccinated when they are eligible.”

Senator Bob Menendez, who called for a larger allocation of vaccines in Hudson County in a letter to the governor applauded the increase.

β€œI appreciate the great work by Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Health for responding quickly to significantly increase Hudson County’s vaccine allotment,” said Menendez.Β  “The pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on communities of color and as one of the most diverse and populous counties in New Jersey, Hudson County needs its fair share in vaccines. This increase in allotment will ensure minority communities across Hudson County have equitable access to the vaccine and will bring our state closer to safely and fully reopening our schools and businesses. I applaud Governor Murphy’s leadership throughout this entire pandemic and I look forward to our continued partnership on behalf of New Jersey’s families.”

Those currently eligible to receive a vaccine according to the state’s guidelines include: healthcare personnel, long term care residents and staff, first responders, anyone over the age of 55, individuals ages 16-54 with underlying health conditions, educators, childcare workers, transportation workers, public safety workers, migrant farm workers, members of tribal communities, those experiencing homelessness, clergy, communications workers, IT professionals, members of the media, election personnel, hospitality workers, retail finance employees, real estate workers, shipping service workers, social service employees, utilities workers, warehouse workers and more.

Anyone over the age of 16 will become eligible beginning on April 19.
