Fun Spring Activities


The Bayonne Recreation Division is a major source of fun spring activities for Bayonne’s children.  Some seasonal activities have already taken place, some are happening now, and others are scheduled soon.

During Spring Break for the Bayonne public schools, (Monday, April 5, through Friday, April 9), the Recreation Division has been running Spring Break Day Camp at DiDomenico-16th Street Park.

Special events during Spring Break Week have included a magic show with Dennis the Magician on Tuesday, April 6, and a circus show by Horizon Entertainment on Wednesday, April 7.

Kickball season has been underway since March 13. There are 241 children participating on eighteen teams at Ahern Veterans’ Stadium.  This popular activity is fully booked and runs through late April.

A Foul Shooting Contest will take place on Thursday, April 8, at 2 p.m., for children ages 7 through 13 on the basketball courts on the upper level of DiDomenico-16th Street Park.  Registration will take place at the park.

Flag Football for four-year-old pre-Kindergarten kids begins on Tuesday, April 13, at Gorman Field.  This will be the first season for this activity for this age group.  Limited openings are available.  Please call 201-858-6127 to inquire about registration.

A robotic light show is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, at Ahern Veterans’ Stadium at 7:30 p.m.  Two dancing robots will perform and interact with the audience in this 45-minute show.  For reservations, please call 201-858-6127.

A Minds in Motion event is set for Saturday, May 1, and Saturday, May 8.  Children ages 7 to 13 will build robots outside the 56th Street Senior Center.  For information and registration, please call 201-858-6127.

The Drum Fit Exercise Program will take place on Sunday, May 2, in the basketball gym at the Bayonne High School Ice Rink.  In this program, children ages 7 to 13 will exercise by drumming against exercise balls.  For information and reservations, please call 201-858-6127.

The 2021 season of Buddy Baseball opens with a parade, a participants’ breakfast, and three games on Saturday, May 15.  This popular activity for special needs children is expected to welcome more than 100 players this year.  Both baseball and softball are part of the program. A flag-raising ceremony took place at City Hall in March to welcome the sixth season of Buddy Baseball.
