Hudson Pride Center has announced a new partnership with investment management company Lord, Abbett & Co. LLC, which will support the non-profit’s creation of a new home for the center.
The center, which has operated out of offices in CarePoint Christ Hospital, transitioned all its services from in-person to remote and virtual services due to the pandemic in early 2020 so that they could continue to connect with members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Lord, Abbett & Co will contribute $700,000 over the next three years to the nonprofit and with their financial support, HPC will be able to continue to provide a secure and safe physical home for the LGBTQ+ community in a brand-new center in Jersey City and enhance its services and programming.
“Our team at Hudson Pride is extremely excited to announce the opening of our brand-new center home in the Journal Square area of Jersey City and to one day all be together again safely,” said Executive Director of Hudson Pride Center Elizabeth Schedl. “With the significant financial support from Lord Abbett, we can secure our center’s future while growing our services to meet the continuing needs of our LGBTQ+ community. This partnership is a momentous step for our center and for the years to come.”
For now, the HPC will continue to use digital platforms to provide services which over the past year have ensured that all members have had access to necessities, social connections, mental health services, overall health support and referrals, and safety planning.
Doug Sieg, managing partner of Lord, Abbett & Co, said, “We value all individuals as an organization that is committed to ensuring a sustainable future for our clients, our people, and our world. With this in mind, we’re proud to help fund the building of the new Hudson Pride Center, which aligns with the steps that earned us top marks in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2021 Corporate Equality Index, the national bench marking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.”
Lord, Abbett & Co will not just contribute financially but will also work with Hudson Pride Center on future joint programming partnerships that continue to support the LGBTQ+ community members of Jersey City and Hudson County.
The firm’s Head of Community Relations Catherine Tantillo added, “The new Hudson Pride Center will provide the LGBTQ+ community with a safe haven, where they can receive assistance, support, and services. We hope our commitment will enable this important organization to flourish for years to come, and we look forward to building a long-term relationship.”
Hudson Pride Center has served the LGBTQ+ community in Jersey City and Hudson County for over 25 years.
The Hudson Pride Center was founded in 1993 by a group of activists who recognized the need for an agency that focused on the safety and well–being of its LGBTQ+ residents during the AIDS epidemic.
Today, Hudson Pride Center is a home and a voice for the diverse LGBTQ+ population of New Jersey, offering HIV outreach and linkage to care, PrEP and transgender affirming counseling, crisis intervention counseling, mental health care coordination and education and social support groups.
