The suspect wanted in connection with the February 28th fatal shooting of a 34-year-old Jersey City man, Christian Parra, was apprehended and arrested yesterday afternoon in New Port Richey, Fla.
Ariel Dumit, 35, of New Port Richey, Fla., was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Central District of Florida with the assistance of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
He is pending extradition proceedings to be brought back to New Jersey.
Dumit has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
On February 28, at approximately 8:18 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the BJ’s Parking Lot on Marin Boulevard and Second Street in Jersey City on reports of a shooting.
Officers found Christian Parra, with a gunshot wound to the torso.
He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 9 p.m.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the torso and the manner of death to be homicide.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Jersey City Police Department, the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Central District of Florida, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office for the investigation and arrest.
The above charges are merely accusations. Dumit is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
