A nurse has been honored by the town of Secaucus and the county for Women’s History Month. The town council presented Secaucus High School nurse Kathy Gerbasio with a number of awards.
Holding the frontlines
“We are fortunate that we live in a community where so many people have stepped up during the pandemic,” Councilman Robert Constantino said at a recent meeting. “A lot of people come to mind, one of them is Kathy Gerbasio.”
Gerbasio was the first person to receive the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at the Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center in Kearny when it opened in December. Following that, she has been working at the county site as well as in Secaucus administering vaccines. Gerbasio administered the first COVID-19 vaccines at the Secaucus vaccine point of distribution at the Recreation Center at 1200 Koelle Boulevard.
“We are honored that Tom DeGise, the Hudson County Executive, presented you with this citation,” Constantino continued. The county has picked a woman from each municipality to honor for 2021. Gerbasio is the Secaucus designee.
At the meeting, Constantino presented Gerbasio with a county citation honoring her during Women’s History Month. She also received a Hudson County branded face mask and gold medal.
The town of Secaucus also honored Gerbasio. On behalf of the mayor and town council, Councilwoman Orietta Tringali presented Gerbasio with a community service award.
According to Mayor Michael Gonnelli, Gerbasio puts in countless hours at the Secaucus vaccine site and the county site.
“Kathy, on behalf of the council and myself, we want to say thank you,” Gonnelli said. “You go above and beyond, and we just can’t thank you enough.
Gerbasio thanked the council and mayor for the honor.
