Issyra Gallery will present Christina Fazio with her first solo show this May.
Fazio is a painter and licensed architect based in Hoboken.
Her first solo show called The Sea Bridge will be on view at Issyra Gallery at 300 Observer Hwy. in Hoboken, presented by artist and curator Issa Sow.
Fazio works in water-based oil paint on canvas at a scale that feels life-sized.
“She paints imagined scenarios from the oceanic Anthropocene that hold the contradiction of industrial detritus acting on ocean life,” according to a press release from the gallery. “Fazio is developing a language of elements that create monsters from non-monstrous parts, a new kind of creature from that deep that is a hybrid between man-made and natural.”
Fazio studied painting on a full scholarship at Maryland Institute College of Art and went on to earn a first professional master’s degree in architecture from Cornell University.
She currently works at Ennead Architects in Manhattan.
Gallery goers can meet the artist each Saturday in May from 6 to 9 p.m.
Ten attendees are allowed in person at the same time. They must social distance and wear masks.
