Authorities still looking for suspect in fatal Bayonne stabbing

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is still seeking the public’s help in locating the whereabouts of a suspect wanted in connection with the death of a Bayonne man, 29, who was fatally stabbed in March.

Elvis Santana, 30, of Bayonne, was charged in March in relation to the death of Mathew Mortimer who was found with multiple stab wounds to his body in the vestibule of 1095 Avenue C in Bayonne. Authorities believe that Santana is in the New York-New Jersey metro area.

Santana is charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

On Tuesday, March 2, just before 3:30 p.m., members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to 1095 Avenue C between 53rd and 54th Streets on reports of a stabbing.

The victim, later identified as Mortimer of Bayonne, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 4:15 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Anyone who sees Santana should not approach him, but should immediately contact police.

The above charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
