Competitive swimming this summer

Introduction to Competitive Swimming will be offered at the 16th Street Pool, for Bayonne children in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades, Tuesdays, 6 to 7 p.m., beginning July 6, weather permitting. Experienced swimmers recommended.

Body found in tarp off Route 440

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department are investigating a body found in a tarp on April 27 in a wooded area near the northbound side of Route 440 by the 63rd St. exit. No other information has yet been released.

Youth volleyball clinic

a one-week co-ed outdoor youth volleyball clinic will be held at the 1st Street Outdoor Volleyball Court from June 25 to July 2, 10 to 11:30 a.m., weather permitting. $25 per player.

Children entering 5th grade to eighth are eligible.

Suspect sought in fatal Bayonne stabbing

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is still seeking the public’s help in locating the whereabouts of a suspect wanted in connection with the death of a Bayonne man, 29, who was fatally stabbed in March.

Elvis Santana, 30, of Bayonne, was charged in March in relation to the death of Mathew Mortimer who was found with multiple stab wounds to his body in the vestibule of 1095 Avenue C in Bayonne. Authorities believe that Santana is in the New York-New Jersey metro area.

Anyone who sees Santana should not approach him, but should immediately contact police.
