Teen charged with murder of Jersey City man

A male, 16, has been charged in the death of a Jersey City man, 40, who was found deceased in his apartment last week following a welfare check.

The teen, who is unnamed because he is a juvenile, is charged as a juvenile with Murder, a first-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, a third-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, a fourth-degree crime.

Law enforcement arrested the teen on May 6, at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

On April 27,  just after 1:30 a.m., Jersey City police officers performed a welfare check onan apartment at 44 Storms Ave.

Officers found a lifeless Benjamin Stone who was pronounced deceased at 2:01 a.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death to be multiple blunt force trauma to the torso and the manner of death to be homicide.

The charged teen was transferred to the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center in Morris Township.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations. The juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
