Forty-four percent of North Bergen residents over the age of 18 were fully vaccinated as of last week, according to the township. Another 13 percent had received a single dose, bringing the total to 57 percent of adults who had received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Recently, the township hit the milestone of 40,000 doses administered.
North Bergen recently began vaccinating residents 12 to 15, following approval of the Pfizer vaccine for that age group. Minors must be accompanied by an adult and have parent or guardian consent.
Vaccinating youth comes at an ideal time, with the school district having recently transitioned to a hybrid instruction model, with teachers vaccinated in the runup to the shift. Now students can get vaccinated as they finish the school year.
Vaccinations are administered at the North Bergen Recreation Center, 6300 Meadowview Avenue. To register for ages 12 to 17, call 201-392-2084. Adults can register 24/7 at northbergenvaccine.org.
Anyone age 18 or above who lives, works, or goes to school in North Bergen is eligible to receive the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine for free. Ages 12 to 17 are eligible only for the Pfizer vaccine.
The township offers the Pfizer vaccine to anyone age 12 and up every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center.
The service is free, no appointment necessary, no health insurance required, and any form of identification is accepted.
