The number of vaccinated residents continues to increase as Bayonne begins vaccinating residents age 12 and over. As of May 18, over 100 eligible children have been inoculated.
“Once the Pfizer vaccine was authorized for children over 12, we have seen hundreds of parents bring their children to the Korpi Ice Rink to get them protected against the coronavirus,” Mayor James Davis said.
The Pfizer vaccine is administered Tuesdays and Thursdays at Korpi Ice Rink. The Moderna vaccine will be administered to residents 18 and over on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Anyone under 18 must have their parent’s or guardian’s permission.
Residents can walk in at the ice rink behind Bayonne High School at 669 Avenue A, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are not needed but can be made between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
“I stopped by the ice rink to check on our operation on Tuesday, and I was very happy to see so many people coming out to get vaccinated,” Davis said. “Because of your cooperation and willingness to get the vaccine, Bayonne is making great strides on our path to return to normal.”
The city has administered over 50,000 doses. Davis said this equates to 57 percent of the population receiving at least one dose.
Reopening continues
Davis urged residents to keep an eye out for changes to restrictions by the state: “As many of these regulations get dropped, it means we are getting that much closer to normal. We owe our success to you, the people of Bayonne.”
COVID-19 cases continue to decline after having plummeted dramatically in early May. There were 20 residents COVID-19 positive, as of May 20. According to OEM, “the numbers are trending down,” decreasing from 30 last week.
The number of hospitalizations remains low, as most residents recover at home. There were five COVID-19 patients at BMC as of May 20. OEM does not have data on Bayonne residents in other hospitals.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Korpi Ice Rink. To register, call 201-537-4818. Walk-ins get vaccinated here from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with no appointment needed.
