The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has charged Shianne Payne-Nanton, 21, of Jersey City, with the murder of Emmanuel Garcia, 23, who was shot on Princeton Avenue and Brown Place on May 3.
She has been charged with Murder, a crime of the first degree; Attempted Murder, a crime of the first degree; Conspiracy to Commit Murder, a crime of the first degree; Possession of a Weapon (firearm) for an Unlawful Purpose, a second-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (firearm, a second-degree crime), according to the HCPO.
On May 3, just before 11 p.m., Jersey City police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Princeton Avenue and Brown Place in Jersey City.
Officers found a male victim – later identified as Emmanuel Garcia – who had sustained gunshot wound(s) to his body. He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 11:24 p.m.
The Regional Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds of the torso and left upper extremity and the manner of death to be homicide.
HCPO Homicide Unit detectives arrested Payne-Nanton following a motor vehicle stop at approximately 6:30 p.m. on May 27.
Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests may follow, according to the HCPO.
The above charges are merely accusations. Payne-Nanton is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
