Hudson County celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride

All 12 Hudson County municipalities will raise the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag during the month of June.

Bayonne, Guttenberg, Harrison, Secaucus, Weehawken, West New York, and Union City held flag raisings on June 8. North Bergen raised its flag on June 4, and Hoboken raised the flag on June 5. The remaining municipalities have events later this month. Hudson County raised its flag on June 7.

Fatal Jersey City shooting investigated

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and Jersey City Police Department are investigating a Jersey City fatal shooting.

On June 5, at about 10:05 p.m., the JCPD received a report of gunshots in the area of Stegman St. and Martin Luther King Dr.

Officers found Ahmad McPherson, 22, of Jersey City with gunshot wound(s) to the torso. He was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center at about 10:40 p.m.

North Hudson rallies for social and racial justice

A rally in solidarity with Palestine and for racial justice in the U.S. was held in Braddock Park on June 5. Speakers called for the liberation of Palestinians in Israel, and African Americans in the U.S.

Hoboken is dog-run heaven 

Hoboken opened the newly renovated Elysian Park Dog Run, added a new dog run at Second and Hudson Streets in 2019, helped renovate the dog run at Maxwell Park, and partnered with Hudson County to upgrade the Stevens Park and Church Square Park dog runs.

JC cops Rock the Block

The Jersey City Police Department will host four Rock the Block events, June 21, 4 to 7 p.m., MLK Dr. between Stevens and Van Nostrand; June 22, 4 to 7 p.m., Monticello Dr. between Communipaw and Brinkerhoff; June 23, 4 to 7 p.m., Eighth St. between Brunswick and Dead End; and June 24, 4 to 7 p.m., Ogden Ave. between Bowers and Griffith.

Hotel Trades Council endorses Hoboken mayor 

The Hotel Trades Council, which represents 6,000 workers, endorsed Mayor Ravi Bhalla for re-election. “I look forward to continuing our constructive and positive working relationship,” Bhalla said.
