Vaccination schedule at Korpi Ice Rink cut back

Vaccines will be administered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

As Bayonne reopens at full speed, it’s cutting back its Korpi Ice Rink vaccine schedule.

“I have been out and about each day, and I’m happy to see thousands of you shopping at our stores, visiting our parks, and just enjoying some sort of normal life after all we’ve been through,” Davis said.

He highlighted the recent launch of the weekly Farmers Market and the planned Independence Day fireworks.

“Because of your great cooperation, we have given over 62,000 doses of  the vaccine to our community,” Davis said. “As we approach the 70 percent mark, we are now going to reduce the vaccine POD days to just Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.”

Seventy percent refers to the number of adult residents in Bayonne who have received at least one dose.

Residents can walk in to Korpi Ice Rink behind Bayonne High School at 669 Avenue A, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are not needed but can be made between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Pfizer vaccine is administered Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Moderna vaccine will be administered to residents 18 and over on Wednesdays. Anyone under 18 must have their parents’ or guardians’ permission.

Options still available

Prior to the downsize, the city had been expanding its vaccine rollout in various ways. On June 17, Davis announced that he agreed to enter the city into a program which would vaccinate international crew members on ships docked in Bayonne.

The city has deployed mobile vaccination sites at senior housing, public housing, other congregate housing, and miscellaneous sites such as the Bayonne Farmers Market and the homes of homebound residents.

As of June 24, there were eight active cases, down from 11 as of June 17, according to Bayonne Office of Emergency Management (OEM). It has not listed how many patients were at Bayonne Medical Center, but there were zero as of June 10, according to OEM.
