Police investigate death of Jersey City senior citizen

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a Jersey City woman, 78, who was found dead in her Arlington Ave. apartment June 26 following a call for a welfare check.

Police detained a woman, 53, who also lives in the unit after she allegedly barricaded herself in the apartment and did not allow Jersey City police access to the unit for about three hours.

Once the woman opened the door and allowed the JCPD police officers in, they found the lifeless woman.

The victim was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m. on June 26. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner.

The circumstances surrounding her death are being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the JCPD.
