The North Bergen Police Department has collaborated again with the Recreation Department for the third “Cops and Bobbers” event, which brings kids to Braddock Park for a day of fishing in the lake.
The kids are participants in the North Bergen Summer Fun program. They arrived in shifts in the morning and early afternoon to fish with police.
Representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service joined the cops and kids for the day. They brought their “Reels on Wheels” trailer and helped teach the children how to bait, cast, and catch.
The agency covers New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, helping mainly urban youth to interact with wildlife. They supplied the rods and bait for the kids, many of whom were fishing for the first time.
“Cops and Bobbers” was established in 2018, as an annual event in coordination with the Recreation Department’s Summer Fun program. It took a hiatus last year due to the pandemic.
Lunch and refreshments were provided by the township.
