A Great Night Out

×

On Tuesday, August 3, the City of Bayonne took part in the 38th annual National Night Out. This nationwide event is designed to bring communities and police departments together for the fight against crime.  Bayonne’s 2021 Night Out was a great success.  Families, children, and individual residents came out for a fun time on Broadway from 21st Street to 23rd Street.  It was a great feeling to see so many of our residents coming together for this great community event. The local Night Out was organized by the Bayonne Police Department and Dee Dee Bottino of the Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone/Special Improvement District.  They deserve great credit for making this event work so well.

National Night Out in Bayonne featured free children’s rides, free popcorn, various giveaway items, soft drinks, snacks, music by a DJ, and displays from agencies and organizations.  The items given away included Frisbees and wrist bands.

I would like to thank all of the participating agencies and sponsors that made Bayonne’s National Night Out 2021 a great success. Participating agencies included the Bayonne Police Department, the Bayonne Urban Enterprise Zone/Special Improvement District, the Bayonne Department of Public Works, the Bayonne Housing Authority, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, McCabe Ambulance, and the Bayonne Fire Department. The Bayonne Police Explorers helped the Police Department at the event.  Various public safety agencies had vehicles on display at the event.  In a very relaxed atmosphere, National Night Out gave everyone the opportunity to see the important roles that public safety agencies and emergency services play in Bayonne and Hudson County.

Local private sector sponsors of National Night Out included BCB Community Bank, Kayco (Kedem/Royal Wines), Rainforest Distributors  (beverage distribution), and other local businesses.  Several non-profit organizations also participated in the event.

All of the agencies, sponsors, businesses, and non-profit groups help to make Bayonne such a great community.

National Night Out began in 1984.  It has grown to include 38 million people and more than 16,000 communities from all fifty American states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

As Mayor of Bayonne, I am very proud that our city participates in this great annual celebration of public safety and community.  I would like to thank all of our residents who visited Broadway on National Night Out.  I look forward to seeing a great turnout again next year.  Let us all work together against crime and for greater community spirit.
