The Mile Square Early Learning Center in Hoboken is expanding its Preschool Transition Program with more classrooms for the upcoming fall season.
The program, which provides children an early introduction to preschool, will expand services from one classroom to four at the Rue building at 301 Garden Street “that will be fully equipped with a wide range of educationally appropriate materials, books and other important educational resources,” according to a press release.

“The Preschool Transition Program is unquestionably one of our most sought-after resources for parents, and most years there’s a long wait list for admittance,” said Program Director Madelyn Bautista in a statement. “With demand so high, we’ve been able to expand the program and offer more opportunities for parents seeking an affordable option for children to learn and grow until they can enroll in Pre-K 3 programs in various cities in Hudson County.
The program is open for children in Hoboken, Jersey City, Weehawken and other Hudson County former Abbott (early childhood) municipalities who are 2.5 to 3.5 years old and will turn 3 after the cutoff date for preschool on September 30. Children whose parents work in the area are also eligible.
The program runs Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is also available to four-year-olds in municipalities that don’t have a preschool option. There are four options for the length of the day. Families may also choose a 10- or 12-month option.
