Hudson County’s Cantigas Women’s Choir (Cantigas) is seeking women of all vocal ranges to join them in person or virtually for the Fall 2021 semester, beginning Tuesday September 14 at 7 PM.
Under the tutelage of artistic director Hannah Carr, Cantigas is a diverse 50-person women’s choir that seeks to share the universal language of music.
Cantigas prides itself in a diverse repertoire, with musical selections hailing from countries across the globe. This year, as Cantigas prepares for a 2022 performance tour in Ireland, they will collaborate closely with an Irish choir, composer and conductor. Spring workshops in Balkan singing and Gospel music are also planned. Each Cantigas season is a unique and wholly gratifying cultural experience for its members and their audience.
With community outreach at the core of their mission, the choir has, in recent years, sung with inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton, performed at Jersey City’s Big Read and Hoboken’s Night Out and caroled at the Alaris Nursing Home.
For membership-specific questions or details about joining Cantigas for the upcoming season, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Masks, vaccines and social distancing will be required for all in-person participants. For additional details on Cantigas’ Covid-19 protocol, click here. All vocal parts are welcome. An interest in singing diverse world music and an ability to blend and sing in tune are essential. Sight reading skills are desirable, but not required.
The Cantigas Fall Semester runs from September through December. The Spring Semester runs from January through May.
