Policeman’s Park at 1455 Union Turnpike and Grand Avenue in North Bergen will temporarily close for renovations on Sept. 20, according to the township.
The township is installing a new gazebo and lighting. The North Bergen Board of Commissioners authorized $59,291.26 to purchase the gazebo at its April meeting.
Construction is expected to take about two weeks, according to the township; it slated to reopen on Oct. 4.
The park underwent an extensive $1.2 million renovation in 2020. The township refurbished and reopened the park in July of last year, featuring a new water spray area, toddler swings, a playground with rubberized surfaces for two- to five-year-olds, a playhouse and play set with slides, a new basketball court, dog run, benches, and other amenities.

Meanwhile, phase two of the renovations of 10th Street Park are ongoing but facing delays. The initial goal was to finish and open the park sometime in September.
However, the township is waiting for materials before it can proceed with certain aspects of the renovations. There have been supply-chain delays in receiving various items due to both Hurricane Ida and COVID-19, which the township warned could cause delays in construction.
When completed, the renovated park will include two play structures on safe rubberized surfaces for ages two to five and five to twelve, along with a new spray park.
There will also be shaded benches, new receptacles, and landscaping. The current fencing will be removed and replaced, and a security camera will monitor the park for safety.
