Hoboken city council candidates to remain on ballot

A Hudson County Superior Judge has ruled that city council candidates Manny Rivera, Cindy Weigand, and Ian Rintelcan stay on the ballot in the upcoming city elections, despite Team Bhalla legally challenging the petitions of the candidates.

The city council elections for at-large seats will have 10 candidates.

North Bergen park to close temporarily

Policeman’s Park will be close for the installation of a gazebo and decorative lighting from Sept. 20 to Oct. 4.

Hoboken secures funding for Weehawken Cove boat removal

Hoboken has secured more than $235,000 in grant funding to remove sunken boats and marine debris from Weehawken Cove.

The city will begin the removal in the spring of 2022 following the selection of a salver. It will last two years.

Jersey City cop pleads guilty

A Jersey City Police Department officer pleaded guilty on September 16 to a charge that he traveled to Atlantic City to sexually assault two underage girls, Acting Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck announced.

Stephen T. Wilson, 34, from Bayonne, pleaded guilty to an accusation charging him with one count of second-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault.

The state will recommend that Wilson be sentenced to eight years in state prison. He must register as a sex offender and be subject to parole supervision for life. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 21.

North Bergen car show rescheduled

The Sixth Annual North Bergen Classic Car & Bike Show originally scheduled for September has been rescheduled to Sunday, Oct. 17. It will take place on Bergenline Avenue adjacent to Braddock Park, beginning at 79th Street.

The fee to register a vehicle is $25. Proceeds will go to the New Jersey Special Olympics. For more information or to register a vehicle call 732-713-5365 or email felix@labs619.com.

NJCU opens Earth Museum

The New Jersey City University Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences has opened the NJCU Earth Museum on the second floor of the university’s Science Building. It will be open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Hamilton Park Conservancy hosts BBQ Festival

On September 25, the Hamilton Park Conservancy will host it’s 11th annual BBQ Festival at McWilliams Pace in Jersey City from 12 to 8 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the conservancy.
