Students join Hudson River ecosystem event
Jersey City’s Hudson Montessori School will host the “Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor,” organized by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to study the Hudson River ecosystem. It will take place at Morris Canal Basin, Oct. 14, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m..
Disaster Recovery Center closes in Secaucus
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Recovery Center in Hudson County located at the Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center at 1379 Paterson Plank Rd. permanently closed on Oct. 12.
While this site will be closed, face-to-face assistance in the wake of Hurricane Ida is still available. Find the nearest center online at fema.gov/drc, or text DRC and the current ZIP Code to 43362.
North Bergen book club picks title
This month’s selection of the North Bergen Free Public Library’s Virtual Adult Book Club is “Nomadland” by Jessica Bruder, 3 p.m., Oct. 20. Register at nbpl.org/event/october-adult-book-club-2.

Cycling for breast cancer research
Hoboken’s Prime Cycle is raising money for breast cancer research this month. For every rider who wears pink to class in October, the gym will donate $1. It will also accept donations of any amount.
Funds will go to the Metastatic Breast Cancer Research at the Memorial Sloane Kettering and Dana Farber Institute. Donations will be matched by the Cancer Couch Foundation.
Get vaccinated in Secaucus
The Secaucus vaccination site is open and providing COVID-19 vaccinations at the Recreation Center at 1200 Koelle Boulevard. The site provides first, second and booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine and third shots of the Moderna vaccine.
Third and booster doses are administered by appointment only. Call the Health Department at 201-330-2031 to book a slot. Visit SecaucusNJ.gov/Vaccine for additional information and eligibility details.

WNY holds Wiffle Ball Fundraiser
West New York’s annual Wiffle Ball Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness will be held on Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at Miller Park, 5808 Jackson Street.
Register individually or as a team by calling the 201-295-5270. A $20 donation is required.
There will also be a Clothing & Shoe Drive Fundraiser that day. Bring items in tightly-tied bags.
Union City offers free flu shots
Shots will be administered Oct. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Washington School, 3905 New York Ave. Bring insurance cards if you have insurance.
