A Bayonne man has been arrested and charged following an alleged “road rage” assault of an 81-year-old man, according to the Bayonne Police Department.

Luis A. Villa, 33 years old, was taken into custody at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 from his residence after being identified as the perpetrator of an alleged aggravated assault, “road rage,” reported on Oct. 5 at 10:48 a.m.

On that day, the 81-year-old male victim of Jersey City reported that he was seated in his vehicle and stopped at a traffic light in the area of Hook Road and Rt. 440. That’s when he became involved in a verbal altercation with the operator of a vehicle stopped behind him.

The perpetrator then fled the area.

The victim suffered injuries to his left eye and face and was treated at an area hospital. An intense and thorough investigation was initiated by the Bayonne Police Detective Bureau which led to Villa being identified as the actor.

A warrant for his arrest was issued and executed at his residence where detective’s also recovered the vehicle he was utilizing during the road rage incident.

Villa has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
