Former Jersey City police chief loses bid for pension
Former Jersey City police chief Phil Zacche has lost a bid to have a $144,000 annual pension reinstated after the New Jersey Supreme Court declined to hear his case. He pleaded guilty in federal court in 2018 for taking $31,000 from the JCHA for a security job he didn’t show up to.
North Bergen hosts pop-up vaccination clinics
North Bergen is hosting pop-up vaccination in collaboration with the county clinics at the Kennedy Branch Library on Nov. 18 from 1 to 5 p.m., Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 16 from 1 to 5 p.m., and Dec. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Free COVID-19 vaccines are available for anyone ages 5 and up including Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson. Boosters are also available.
North Bergen Library’s Kennedy Branch is located at 2123 Kennedy Blvd. No appointments are necessary; walk-ins are welcome. Appointments can be made online ahead of time at hudsoncovidvax.org.
Secaucus Holiday Food and Toy Drive
The Secaucus Emergency Food Pantry is holding a Holiday Food and Toy Drive on Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Senior Center at 145 Front Street.
Food requested includes stuffing, canned yams, pasta, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, canned corn, marinara sauce, mac and cheese, cookies, turkey gravy or $10 gift cards to local supermarkets. For non-perishable items, milk, bread and cheese, among similar items are requested.
Toys should be new and unwrapped, for less fortunate children between the ages of 6 and 12.
State Supreme Court to take up Jersey City payroll tax lawsuit
The New Jersey Supreme Court will be taking up a lawsuit about Jersey City’s 1 percent payroll tax on businesses or out-of-city firms that employ Jersey City residents to fund the Jersey City Public School district. The court is expected to hear oral arguments early next year, with a potential ruling in late 2022.

The Bed Bath & Beyond at 400 Marin Blvd. in Jersey City will be closing permanently on Saturday, Nov. 14. The store will be the last of the retail chain to be in Hudson County.
North Bergen turkey giveaway
Mayor Nicholas Sacco’s annual NB C.A.R.E.S. Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway will take place from 12 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 22 at the North Bergen Recreation Center at 6300 Meadowview Ave.
