Write a letter to Santa

Santa’s Mailbox has been placed in front of City Hall at 630 Avenue C. For anyone dropping off letters to Santa, make sure to include a return mailing address on the envelope or letter. Santa will respond to all letters that are in the mailbox.

The deadline to drop off a letter and receive a response from Santa is Thursday, Dec. 16. Make sure there is a return mailing address. Letters may still be dropped off after Dec. 16. Do not drop off regular mail in Santa’s Mailbox.

Recycling Yard to accept mattresses and box springs

The Bayonne Recycling Yard at 330 Hook Road will start accepting drop-offs of wrapped mattresses and box springs, according to Mayor James Davis.

The drop-off will begin effective Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. The Constable Hook Recycling Yard will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, except holidays.

Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic or in mattress covers for sanitary reasons, Davis said. Unwrapped mattresses and box springs will be refused.

The drop-off program is for Bayonne residents only. Everyone dropping off mattresses or box springs must show identification with proof of Bayonne residency.

COVID-19 update

According to the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management, as of Dec. 3, there were 67 active COVID-19 cases, up from 58 as of Nov. 24.

As of Dec. 3, there were three hospitalizations, up from zero on Nov. 24.

Vaccines available

The Moderna vaccines, including first, second, third, and booster doses are available at the Korpi Ice Rink on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pfizer vaccines, including first, second, third, and booster doses are available at the ice rink on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Virus testing

COVID-19 testing is available at the Bayonne Community Museum at 229 Broadway. Both regular and rapid testing are available on Thursdays from 1 to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment needed.

Keep streets and sidewalks clear

The Bayonne Police Traffic Enforcement Unit is reminding residents and visitors to ensure the Public Right-of-Way is kept clear.

Accessible and unobstructed sidewalks and streets are imperative, not only for Emergency Services to respond to calls for service, but also for elderly and disabled residents to safely move about the area. The awareness and education campaign is being conducted in the hope that future enforcement action will not be necessary.

Residents are reminded to park in permitted areas only and keep the fire hydrants clear; and remove snow and ice quickly and fully, from vehicles as well as the street and sidewalks.
