Authorities continue to investigate Hoboken Chambord fire
Authorities — including the Hoboken police and fire departments, the Hudson County Prosecutor, and the Regional Arson Task Force — continue to investigate the Chambord Building fire in Hoboken that killed two people on Dec. 20, and flared up again two days later. The first victim was identified as Rose Marie Vos, while the second victim is being held pending notification of next of kin.
Pascrell tests positive for COVID-19
Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., who represents the 9th Congressional District of New Jersey including Secaucus and parts of Kearny, tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 30.
In a statement, Pascrell said: “I am fully vaccinated and boostered. Blessedly my symptoms are mild. I am working from home and will closely monitor my health. Omicron spreads like wildfire and is no joke. If you haven’t yet get off your butt and get vaccinated and get boostered: these shots are the only reason my case is luckily mild. Don’t worry about me: get your shots!”
Liberty Science Center to reopen on Jan. 12 after Christmas Eve closure
The Liberty Science Center will be reopening on Jan. 12 after closing on Christmas Eve due to rising COVID-19 cases in the area. Via rideshare wait time in Jersey City grows slightly longer
The Via rideshare service in Jersey City had a slightly longer wait time this quarter, increasing about two minutes longer from the last quarter, according to data provided by Mayor Steve Fulop. The change in wait time was due to vehicles being under maintenance after Ida.
Normal garbage pick up in North Bergen
With the holidays falling on a weekend this year, there will be no impact on the garbage and recycling schedules. Pickups will take place Monday through Friday as usual.
Coat drive in Union City
Union City Public Schools will be holding a coat drive until Jan. 14, hosted by the Office of Community Relations. Donate coats, gloves, scarves, socks, hats, and sweaters of all sizes from toddlers to adults.
Smoke alarms available in WNY
Free two-in-one carbon monoxide and smoke alarms are available to West New York residents. The alarms must be installed by a Fire Prevention employee, at no cost. Vaccines available in Union City
Vaccines are available at Mother Seton School at 1501 New York Avenue on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-ins are available.
Vaccines are also available at the Union City Housing Authority at 3911 Kennedy Blvd at the pavilion in the rear of building on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-ins available.
