Keep Christmas Decorations Up Until Epiphany

Dear Editor:

As we approach the end of this Holiday season, I would like to take this opportunity to discuss a couple of thoughts that have crossed my mind.

The first is about a very sad sight that seems to happen every year. Immediately after Christmas Day, I am faced with a most desolate vision, the depressing view of discarded Christmas trees at the curb, awaiting their final fate at the hands of sanitation workers. This is woefully wrong. The Christmas season officially ends on January 6, Epiphany, also known as Three Kings Day or “Little Christmas.”

On that day, three kings, or Magi, from the Orient visited the infant Jesus. Consequently, the Christmas decorations, to include the Christmas tree, should be taken down after Epiphany, and not before.

The second is a bit more philosophical. At the beginning of each year, you are given the first blank page of a 365-page book. Each minute is a word; each week, a paragraph; and each month, a chapter. It is your book! Write a good one! And be sure to save a few words, so you can make changes as needed, as you write these all-important pages.

Have a happy, safe, healthy, and prosperous 2022.
