Authorities identify second victim of Hoboken Chambord fire

Authorities identified the second victim of the Chambord fire as 61-year-old Alexander von Schlinke.

Authorities investigating the Hoboken Chambord fire have identified the second victim of the fatal fire that took place last month. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office identified him as 61-year-old Alexander von Schlinke. He and the other victim, 60-year-old Ros Marie Vos, died in the fire on Dec. 20.

The fire took place early in the morning at 38 Jackson St., where a Hoboken officer responded to a loud explosion at around 12:20 a.m. During fire suppression activities, firefighters found the two victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is pending the Regional Medical Examiner’s office.

Authorities had identified the late Marie Vos shortly after the fire. Von Schlinke’s identity had been pending notification next of kin, with friends of his having identified him on a GoFundMe page to pay for funeral expenses.

Last week, authorities said that the fire started at a first floor shop called Glass & Vapor House LLC, per a preliminary investigation. Investigators believe that the presence of flammable material in the business likely contributed to the fire.

The HCPO are leading the investigation along with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Regional Arson Task Force, the Hoboken Fire and Police Departments, and the New Jersey State Fire Marshal.
